White Water South Alps – NEW THIRD EDITION

This was delivered to our Distributors Cordee on the 8th November 2011 and should now be in your local specialist retailer.

White Water Nepal - NEW THIRD EDITION

NOTE AT 10th Dec.   The main shipment from Nepal has now arrived in the UK but I am a bit concerned that it will take time before the books filter through the distribution system.  Most specialist retailers should have them before Christmas but mail order suppliers like Amazon are saying that they cannot promise delivery for Christmas.

If you need a book for Christmas then we want to help and we can in this instance supply you direct, by return, from our small office stock. The cost is £22.95 with free postage and I will sign the book with a personal message if you wish. Please email me - pk at riverspublishing.demon.co.uk.

Best wishes for Christmas,  Peter Knowles.

Canoe & Kayak Map of Britain

We are delighted to announce our next exciting project!

As at December 2011 our cartographer has done a huge amount of work and achieved a fine looking base map.  We have also overdrawn the draft river detail on the southern sheet.   We will be restarting work on this project in the next few weeks.

Draft Specification

Size B1. Printed on both sides in full colour.  Folded to approx. 245 x 115mm.  High quality paper.  Suggested  R.R.Price £9.95.  Publication April 2011.

Summary

This is planned as a high quality canoeing map of mainland England, Scotland and Wales at a scale of ten miles to the inch or 1:625,000.  Similar to the Canoe–Kayak map of France published by the IGN.

Most of England and Wales will appear on one side of the B1 sheet – Scotland and the far north of England will appear on the reverse.  The map will identify all rivers, canals, lakes and other waterways that could reasonably and probably have been paddled regularly in the past.

The base map is quite detailed and shows, all rivers, waterways, rail, roads and towns with this detail in muted colours. Over this is superimposed the canoeing information with colours being used to show –

§          Different Grades of water – Flat, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5

§          Navigations used by larger motorized craft.

§          Easy estuary and coastal paddles.

§          Waterways not reasonably paddled will be shown as a thin blue line.

§          Especially popular canoeing stretches will be highlighted.

Artificial white water courses will be identified and highlighted.

We plan to show canoe shops with a red dot and a number which will relate to a simple standard box with their details. We do not plan to show canoe hire, outdoor centres, or providers (too complicated).

Spare space around the map will have brief guidance notes and information boxes showing the links to further information sources - websites, guide books, etc.

Because of geographical constraints we sadly will not be including Northern Ireland.

Thank you for your interest. We at Rivers Publishing welcome your suggestions.
